The UIPM developed the Laser Run in 2015 and is the newest sport in the pentathlon family. It consists of the run and shooting only, and is run similarly to the pentathlon combined event. Athletes of all ages from 8 to 80 can participate and the event is held in cities throughout the world.

The Laser Run is made up of four rounds of laser pistol shooting from 10 metres and four 800-metre runs. Athletes have to hit a target 5 times before they can run. The total number of hits is 20 and the total running distance is 3,200 metres.
