Governance and structure
Structure
Modern Pentathlon Australia (MPA) is the national federation for the Olympic sport of modern pentathlon in Australia, and is recognised as such by the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM), the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) and the Australian Sports Commission (ASC).
Governance
As part of the implementation of the Australia’s Winning Edge program, the ASC has adopted an enhanced focus on the governance of sporting organisations, headlined by a set of Mandatory Governance Principles. All sports, including modern pentathlon, are required to comply with these principles.
In May 2024, MPA’s Member Associations unanimously resolved in favour of converting Modern Pentathlon Australia Inc. into a company limited by guarantee, as required by the Mandatory Governance Principles. The Member Associations also unanimously resolved to adopt a new constitution on conversion.
MPA’s Board remains focused on ensuring that the governance arrangements of MPA and its Member Associations align with the Mandatory Governance Principles. Our objective is to ensure that governance of our sport, at all levels, is aligned to best practice principles and provides a platform for growth and sustainable success.
Who leads us?
MPA's Board is responsible for setting the strategic direction for the sport of modern pentathlon in Australia, developing MPA's strategic plan and having oversight of its activities. As a small sport, almost entirely reliant on volunteers, individual members of the Board are also actively engaged in a number of those activities.
MPA has a small, part-time workforce comprising an Executive Officer and a Pathways and Performance Manager (both funded by a Pathways Workforce grant from the Australian Sports Commission) and an Integrity Manager (partially funded by Sport Integrity Australia and partially by the Australian Sports Commission).
Executive Officer - Kayt Spano (exec@modernpentathlon.org.au)
Pathways and Performance Manager - Kim Richardson (pathways@modernpentathlon.org.au)
Integrity Manager - Donna Olborne (integrity@modernpentathlon.org.au)
