Modern Pentathlon Australia is excited to announce the following athletes who have been selected as part of the national team to participate in upcoming international events in 2022.

International competition experience and exposure is necessary for our athletes to help them develop in the sport, build and refine their competition experience and “robustness” and develop a strong team culture which will build performance through this cycle and beyond.  “I am simply delighted to see an Australian team travelling again. COVID has had a big impact and this will be the first international team, outside of the Olympics, I have seen compete in my 2+ years as Performance Pathways Director.” Says Hannah Every-Hall.

”Our young athletes have put in significant time and commitment over the past 2 years, and we have seen significant great improvement with the instigation of regular monitoring.  It will be terrific and exciting to now see them perform on the international stage” says Every-Hall,.

The primary tour this year is the Laser Run World Championships, being held in Lisbon Portugal 22-25 September 2022.  A large team of 14 athletes, consisting predominately of youth athletes, have been selected to go on this tour with the objective being to nurture and progress the athletes development towards LA 2028, Brisbane 2032 and beyond.  This team will be accompanied by Pathways and Performance Manager Hannah Every-Hall, and coaches Eszter Hortobagyi and Adam Temesi .

Our AIS categorised athletes, Zara Temei, Genevieve Janse van Rensburg and Tully Watt, accompanied by coach Eszter Hortobagyi, will continue on from the laser run tour to compete in the Junior World Championships the following week in Poland.

MPA President Kitty Chiller also congratulated the selected Team; “It has been a long time since we sent a team of this size away to an international event and we couldn’t be more excited. We have worked hard during COVID to ensure our athletes stayed motivated through regular virtual time trials and online technical training as well as coach development programs and we are now seeing the benefits of that.”

Congratulations to these outstanding young athletes, their coaches and support teams.  We look forward to seeing you all perform on the world stage.
